Buxton Lodge No. 115 A.F. & A.M

e-Trestle Board, November, 2008

Greetings Brethren,

At our November meeting, we will enjoy a turkey dinner.  At our October meeting, Eastern Star put on a great meal of lamb stew and hot biscuits. At the stated meeting on the first Monday of November, we will initiate a new candidate and will likely vote on two more applications.  Consequently, we will have plenty of degree work in the upcoming months.  At our last meeting, Bro. Chad Poitras gave an interesting talk about his profession and end-of-life-issues.  Bro Poitras is the funeral director at the local Dennett, Craig and Pate funeral home. There were many questions from the sidelines.   Bro. Chad did a great job, and we received some very useful information.

At the prodding of the Building Committee saying "Let us not wait. Get it done now," the roof leak problem was undertaken by Bro. Butch Gannett, Bro. Ron Moore and me.  On a recent beautiful October day, I climbed out on the Lodge roof and fixed the leaks on the front of the building. Brothers Butch and Ron tightly held on to the tether hooked to my safety harness.   Those slate shingles can be slippery, but I had full faith that my Brothers would not let go of the rope as I scampered along the roof.  The snow rake on the back of the building will also be repaired soon.  Bro. Rob Roy changed the lights in the kitchen and Lodge room. He also lent a hand with the roof crew. Thank you for everyone that lent a hand.

We held an open house at the Lodge on October 18.  Several Masons, Rainbow, DeMolay and Star members participated.  We enjoyed refreshments especially pastries from Tony’s Bakery donated by Bro. Jason (or was it Bro. Jamie?) Grant.  A few folks showed up, but it was somewhat disappointing that more people from the community didn’t participate.

The Eastern Star is holding a Master Mason night on November 10, 2008, with dinner at 6:00 p.m.   Rainbow and DeMolay are performing the work for the evening. Lets all support this event.  All Master Masons are invited.

Brethren,  it warrants repeating that it costs over $60 to mail the 100 or so copies of the trestle board every month or over $600 per year!  Trestles boards that are e-mailed however cost the Lodge nothing.  So if you are  an active or even a casual e-mail user, or if your e-mail address has changed, please provide the Secretary at buxton115@roadrunner.com   with your e-mail address if you haven’t already done so.

The proposal to change our by-laws, Article 7, section 4, to suspend Brothers for non-payment of dues from three years in the arrears to two years in the arrears has been approved by Grand Lodge.  If you currently have dues amounting to two years in the arrears, you will have until the date of our Annual Meeting, December 7, 2009, to pay your dues, when at that time you will be three years in the arrears.  All others will be suspended according to the accepted change and will be suspended if their dues are two years in the arrears on December 7, 2009.

If you are currently two or three years in the arrears, please consider at least paying a portion of your dues now.  We realize that three year’s dues amounts to $150 which is a considerable amount of money, and is a  major reason that we are considering changing our by-laws.

 Fraternally yours,

Matthew Brooker

e-Trestle Board, September 2008

Greetings Brethren,

Its time to get back to Masonic business and friends. I hope everyone is well and survived this very wet summer.

Our fund raising event at Buxton Old Home Days went well.  It rained in the afternoon, but cleared off in time to sell $200 worth of raffle tickets  before we drew the winning ticket  The winner was Mr. Robert Pettinicco of Buxton.  The saw was donated by Willis & Son in Buxton.  Overall we raised $968, thanks in large part to the hard work and dedication of Bro Brian Gaines.  I wish to thank all others who helped with the raffle.

Chain Saw Winner Robert Pettinicco and Bro. Matt Brooker

Bro. Butch Gannett had a summer get together at his home for the Masons and Eastern Star.  Mostly O E. Star folks attended and  the weather cooperated.  I was sorry I was not able to attend.

Our September Stated meeting is on the 15th. I hope to see many of you there.

I am having a pot luck dinner, hay ride and games at my home at 37 Ashley Way, Waterboro on September 28 2:30 p.m. to sunset. POSTPONED All Brothers and their families are welcomed.

Fraternally yours,

Matthew Brooker
